Cover Letters
Cover Letter for Marketing Jobs
How to write a marketing cover letter that leads with campaign results, channel expertise, and brand judgment—not a paragraph about being creative.
Marketing cover letters die of adjectives. Creative, data-driven, passionate storyteller. None of those can be searched, and none of them tell a director whether you have run their motion.
The letter is a campaign post-mortem aimed at this team: channel, audience, constraint, result. The resume holds the rest of the media mix.
This pack is part of the Complete Cover Letter Guide.
Hook the motion, not the vibe
Match the posting's actual job:
- Lifecycle / growth: activation, retention, payback.
- Demand / ABM: pipeline, SQL quality, sales partnership.
- Brand / communications: consistency, regulated review, reach.
- Product marketing: enablement, launch, win stories.
- Content / SEO: organic, conversion, editorial system.
You're hiring a lifecycle marketer to fix week-one activation, not to "own the brand." I have spent two years on that exact leak.
If you cannot tell which motion it is, you are not ready to tailor. Read the JD again.
Two proofs, campaign-shaped
Each proof: audience + channel + constraint + result.
Rebuilt SMB onboarding in Braze (email + in-app). Activation 22% → 31% in a quarter. Constraint was no extra spend.
Partnered with sales on a 40-account ABM list in 6sense + LinkedIn. Sourced $1.4M pipeline; $310k closed. I can show the hygiene, not just the number.
If you were brand: "Shipped a modular system used in 11 locales; cut freelancer spend 30% by killing one-off decks."
Link the case study on the resume. Do not paste a URL as the whole letter.
Why-them that isn't fan mail
Good: you understood PLG vs enterprise, a new segment they entered, a product launch, a category constraint (HIPAA ads, FINRA, DTC vs retail).
Bad: "I have been a customer since 2019 and I love the colors."
Mini example
Dear Lifecycle team,
You're hiring to raise trial-to-paid without lighting more paid spend. That has been my last role.
I rebuilt the trial drip in HubSpot for a 12-person SaaS team; trial-to-paid 11% → 14% over eight weeks (I will show the sample size). I also killed three zombie automations that were fighting each other—unsexy, high leverage.
I want this seat because you still publish experiment write-ups. I would rather work where lifecycle is treated as a system.
I'd like 20 minutes on the Lifecycle Manager role and the first tests you'd want run.
